The Firefighters Hall & Museum is dedicated to the education and historic preservation of fire service. While our museum and event center are closed in the interest of public health, our dedicated staff of volunteers are preparing to re-open when allowed so that we may continue to tell the stories of the bravest.
Minnesota Firefighters are on the front line every day, but they face unprecedented challenges during these trying times.
We need your help to be able to continue to share the trials and challenges that these courageous men and women face.
We are asking for your help to continue our mission of supporting the history of our Minnesota firefighters and educating the public on safety.
We anticipate that things may not return to “normal” for us for up to 18 months. Without our gate admissions and events to sustain us … we are in dire need of your support.
Your gift right now will ensure our staff and volunteers can continue to serve the community as we have for the past 15 years.
Together, even as our lives feel so unsettled, we can continue to make sure that our front-line firefighters are not forgotten.
Statement of Bill and Bonnie Daniels Fire Hall and Museum
As a non-profit, public safety based organization, located in the heart of Northeast Minneapolis; we join with the innumerable condemnation of the actions of Derek Chauvin and the resulting death of George Floyd. A full investigation followed by our justice system has never been more warranted. Our thoughts and prayers to the Floyd family and all residents and business impacted as a result of his death and subsequent riots.
We speak from first-hand knowledge that Chauvin’s action are not representative of the outstanding officers who comprise the Minneapolis Police force and who are equally appalled and angered by the Mr. Floyds death and destruction of their Precinct Headquarters and community they support and are sworn to protect.
The horrific images capture on video shows the ugly face of racism is far from resolution in this nation and that much work needs to be done.
We join with those same innumerable others to seek reform in policing but urge policy makers to deliberate, use evidenced based information, and involve all stakeholders as doing so creates the greatest likelihood of success.
Similarly, the plague of racism will continue until we move beyond rhetoric and to action, it has been 137 years since Lincoln uttered these profound words – “a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”
We take responsibility for not having done enough and must do more and therefore pledge to:
In all deliberations, decisions and actions of this board and organization – ensure they embody the principles set forth by Lincoln and ensure that in fact, all men (and women) are created equal.

This hidden treasure will excite the fire buff and enthusiast in all of us.
The museum features over 12,000 square feet of historic items from Minnesota Fire Departments dating back to the 1860’s.
There are fire trucks, fire equipment, historic photos, and interactive displays for children.
During the summer months you can even ride on a real fire truck!
The museum collection includes a Thief River Falls steam pumper, a 1919 Mankato aerial ladder a 1932 Minneapolis FWD engine and other historic firefighting apparatus & equipment.
The museum also houses a library with an extensive collection of literature on fire department apparatus, department histories, department records, and periodicals.
In addition to all that history is a wonderful event hall that is perfect for many occasions including a child’s birthday party, corporate meetings, and social gatherings.
